How To Fill An Earth Tower

There are at least TWO OPTIONS for loading the planting mixture into your Earth Tower:

OPTION 1:

STEP 1: Spread newspapers or a tarp under and around your Earth Tower to protect against spills

STEP 2: Remove the soil dividers (otherwise known as the “slats” that slide into the side posts) from one side of the tower, except for the two slats at the bottom.

STEP 3: Place the sheet of weed barrier fabric on the top side of the plastic bottom base. This will allow water to flow out through the drainage hole but will keep the soil in.

STEP 4: Shovel in your moistened planting mix, firming it down lightly with your hands. DO NOT PACK!

STEP 5: Insert slats one or two at a time as their levels are filled.

STEP 6: When you get high enough to reach the watering reservoir, fill around it.

STEP 7: Pat the soil in between the slats to provide a good, slightly slanted, planting surface for your seeds or starters.

STEP 8: Allow the soil mixture to settle overnight before planting. You may find that you need to add a little more to the top rows the next day.

NOTE:

If planting "starter plants" or "starters," you may place your starters into each row while you are filling each level of slats – OR –

fill the Earth Tower fully with mixture; then dig small holes into which you can insert the plant starts.
